Hello, fellow environmental enthusiast! My goal is to give you a place to ask questions, research and gain the confidence to join myself and other zero-wasters in working to better our communities. I’ll start off with how I began my path to loathing landfills.

I picked up trash in a landfill. Yep, that’s right. I had to remove trash so they could make room for more trash. This day of my life was eye-opening. It was cold. The smell was putrid. I was bitter.

In February of 2017, I was required by state of California to do 14 days of community service. From this day forward, all I saw was trash. I saw it at home, I saw it when I ate, when I drove, went for a run; there was trash everywhere. I knew it was wrong, but didn’t have the slightest clue how to go about living any different than I was. I loved having my nails done, buying new shoes.. new anything, truthfully. I was a glutton for material objects and I was proud. Until one day, a video popped up as I aimlessly scrolled through Facebook about a woman who lived zero-waste for 30 days. It was just before the beginning of 2018 and I had just moved back to Texas with a mission to find passion. After watching the video, I decided this would be my “new years resolution”.. but if I was going to do this. I was going to do it all. the. way. So I started sorting. Recycling what I could, holding on to what I was sure “I’d find a use for” and donating a car load of crap that I hadn’t used or saw myself no longer needing in the lifestyle I was going to absorb.

So now, 27 days into living what I call “trash conscious”, I bring to you Landfill Rebel. A place to share with you my experiences, my failures and triumphs, tips, tricks and recipes. I plan to bring you so much more, so stay tuned. xoxo. n.
